Šibenik, a gem in the Croatian Adriatic, is situated along the mouth of Krka on the most picturesque part of the eastern Adriatic coast.

When you come in Sibenik prepare yourself for a walk through old town. There is interesting stuff to see there. Sibenik was first mentioned in 1066., so some attractions are almost millennium old. But most of them were built during the Venetian rule in period 1412. - 1797.

No other city in Croatia has two UNESCO listed heritage sites, except Sibenik. The rich cultural and historical heritage of the city is visible in the impressive Cathedral of sv. Jakov [St. Jacob], built by the famous architect Juraj Dalmatinac. Numerous churches, monasteries, palaces and four fortresses 'frame' the city, and also testify to the perseverance, renunciation and faith of generations of people of Šibenik. Šibenik is a city of culture, the host to the only International Children's Festival as well as traditional events such as Dalmatian chanson Evenings.

Near the town there are two national parks - Krka and Kornati whose fascinating landscapes take visitors breath away.

If your time in Sibenik is limited, and you are wondering which places to visit and which not, then we recommend spending at least one morning (or evening) in the old town. Must-see attractions definitely include Cathedral of St. James and fortresses Barone and St. Michael.
